Continuing our German and Austrian wines tour, this week we have the 2008 Carl Reh Riesling Kabinett, for $12.95 at the LCBO.
This was a very nice Riesling, if a bit simple — it lacked the complexity that would really make me go “wow!” I tasted pears, limes, and just a hint of minerals. The Carl Reh was just a hair off-dry, which gave it a nice, lush fruitiness. I think “gulpable” is the best word I could use to describe this wine.
Oh, and one more great thing: like most Rieslings it’s low in alcohol, only 8.5% by volume (as opposed to 12-15% for most wines). Which means I can enjoy a nice big glass without getting too smashed to answer my e-mail!

Awesome, I’m loving this series. I had convinced myself I hate Riesling until I had a glass I loved in San Francisco. I’m still trying to track down the drink menu online so I can figure out what it was. In the meantime, I’ll try your recommendations.
